Prince Edward Island Immigration Conducts New Expression Of Interest Draw

Prince Edward Island immigration sent out 153 invitations to apply in the latest draw under its Expression of Interest system.

The Feb, 20 draws saw One Hundred and Forty-three (1430 invites given out to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates and Ten (10) to Business Impact candidates.

The Business Impact individuals required a minimum score of 122 points, down three (3) points on the previous draw.

PEI launched its Expression of Interest system at the beginning of 2018 and has made monthly draws ever since.

The province sent out a total of 1,629 invites during 2019. Of these, 1,436 went to Labour Impacts and Express Entry applicants, with the remaining 193 went to Business Impact candidates.

PEI Business Impact Category

Work Permit Stream

Candidates applying under the P.E.I. Work Permit Stream must possess a Canadian work permit and work for a P.E.I. business for a certain amount of time as stipulated in a Performance Agreement.

After the Performance Agreement is met, the candidate must make a minimum $150,000 investment in the business and commit to managing or supervising the business on a daily basis from within P.E.I.

Initially, Prince Edward Island operated direct permanent residence business stream, but these were cancelled in September 2018 over immigration fraud concerns.

PEI Express Entry Stream

PEI’s Express Entry category operates by considering applicants already in the federal Express Entry Pool for a provincial nominations.

Such a nomination adds an additional 600 points to a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and effectively assures an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

The PEI Express Entry Category features two routes to Canadian immigration, one for candidates with a job offer and one for those without a job offer.

PEI Labour Impact Category

1) Skilled Worker Stream

This employer-driven stream enables skilled workers with a job offer in PEI to be nominated for Canadian immigration if they meet the following criteria:

  • A full-time employment offer from a PEI business in an occupation classified as skill level “0”, “A” or “B” of the NOC;
  • Completion of post-secondary education, with a minimum of fourteen (14) years of formal education;
  • Between twenty-one (21) and Fifty-five (55) years of age;
  • At least two (2) years of full-time work experience in the past five (5) years;
  • Sufficient proficiency in French or English to occupy the employment offered;
  • Sufficient settlement fund;
  • Show the intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

2) Critical Worker Stream

This category is designed to resolve labour shortages and is open to foreign workers already in PEI with a job in a specific critical demand occupation. The primary requirements for nomination are:

  • A full-time offer of employment from a PEI business in one of the following occupations:
    Truck driver; Labourer; Food & beverage server; Customer service representative; Housekeeping attendant.
  • Six (6) months of work experience with the PEI business offering employments;
  • Current valid Canadian work permits;
  • High school diploma and minimum of Twelve (12) years of formal education;
  • Between Twenty (21) and Fifty-Five (55) years of age;
  • At least two (2) years of full-time work experience in the past five (5) years;
  • Show basic proficiency in French or English language;
  • Have Sufficient settlement funds;
  • Demonstrated intention to reside in Prince Edward Island.
