Alberta has released the full details of the Alberta Express Entry Stream draw conducted on May 13.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) invited 191 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
Candidates only require a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 to stand the chance of receiving a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Alberta immigration authorities.
NOI recipients now have the chance to obtain a provincial nomination from Alberta. Express Entry candidates who get chosen from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are awarded an extra 600 points toward their overall score.
Provincial nominees are effectively assured of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in upcoming federal Express Entry draw, such as the one that held on May 27.

As the coronavirus crisis still presents an imminent health risk to the public, Alberta province is only considering candidates for a provincial nomination if they are already residing and working in the province. Usually there was no need to have a job offer to receive an NOI via Alberta Express Entry Stream.
Alberta is offering some flexibility for PNP candidates who can’t lodge all documents due to service disruption that are a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The AINP will accept copies of documents, and if the candidates satisfy the necessary requirements, their file will be held for sixty (60) calendar days.
Eligibility Requirement For Alberta Express Entry Stream
The first step to migrate to Canada through the Alberta Express Entry Stream is to open a valid profile in the federal Express Entry system. Candidates must have work experience in an eligible occupation that supports the province’s economic growth and diversification priorities.
The Alberta immigration does not provide a list of eligible occupations, rather they provide a list of occupations that they did not include. Ineligible occupations include those in the government’s low-wage and high-wage occupations in the Alberta province, and the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list.
With special coronavirus measures in effect, the AINP now requires Express Entry candidates to meet the following requirements in order to receive a nomination:
- be currently working in the province of Alberta , even if they are working from home;
- have a work permit allowing them to work in their current job;
- have a job offer that is full-time, paid, meet the provincial minimum wage, surpasses Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) requirements; and they must be working in an eligible occupation.
Candidates who were working full-time before COVID-19 pandemic and those who are working in a regulated occupation who can’t meet licensure requirements will have their applications on hold for sixty (60) calendar days.
If candidates have no recent employment history in Alberta province, their applications might be delayed until further notice.
So far this year, Alberta has rolled out 1,598 invitations to Express Entry candidates. In 2019, the Albert Express Entry Stream sent out 6,884 invitations. Alberta’s provincial nomination allocations for 2020 is yet to be released.
